You claim literatronic is different to other fiction hypertexts. How is this site different? Aside, of course, of cool design. In fact, this is one of the best designed literary web sites. But design is not enough. You need to give us substance. I'm not attacking... I'm really curious.

Good question, Alex. There are several important differences:

  • Literatronic is not one single book, but a platform to publish homogeneously many books, by many authors in multiple languages.
  • The author enters into the system pages and possible connections between them. It is the computer the one who assembles the pieces for the reader. This is actually the heart of the system. Unfortunately, it has proven to be the most difficult part. As of today, I am still calibrating the mathematical model that connects the pieces. The next version, to be released sometime during summer 2004 will have notorious enhancements.
  • Literatronic tries very hard to separate layers in the creative process. The information technology offers support (one layer). The fiction pieces are intended to have a high aesthetic value (other layer). The conceptual model tries to implement ideas that actually come from experiments (even other layer). I've found that different layers are not fully separated by other practitioners. It is easy to find people with excellent narrative ideas that spend excessive amounts of time trying to create a basic web page, or people with high technical skills who deploy poor content.
  • Last but no least, The author responds really quickly to readers questions

By separating layers do you mean that you work with many people?

Actually yes. I've had support from many people and institutions to accomplish this result. In the About section of Literatronic, there are some credits. There are also credits on every book. Follow the link "About..." on every book's page.
